Kallola: world beneath the waves
Description
Kallola is a graphic designer and illustrator who feels privileged to call both Kuki Airani (Cook Islands) and Aotearoa (New Zealand) home.
Surrounded by an endless source of inspiration in nature, this artwork is just a small peek into the beauty and abundance that makes Rarotonga such a special place.
This series was inspired by retro travel posters from a bygone era, combined with studies of the natural world found in the notebooks of early explorers. World beneath the waves is the second in the series. A celebration of the fascinating world beneath the wavesand around the rocky reef which embraces this island.
Inspired by photographs I take on my walks around the island, I usually start by sketching out my composition in pencil as a guide, before moving on to drawing layers of colour, shading and detail.
While the process looks very quick here, in reality it’s a slow, intentional and meditative process that I can get lost in for hours and days on end 🖊🌿
These stunning prints are available in sizes: A3, A4 and postcard size.
